Gaoshan Opera, literally meaning High Mountain Opera, refers to the local ritual and performance conducted for Gods especially during the Chinese New Year in the poverty-stricken mountainous area of Longnan, Gansu Province, middle of China. As the opera was listed as the National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2008, local artists and residents re-started the performance for cultural and touristic reasons after decades of pause because of political and economic difficulties.
